On Saturday, November 10, 2018, the Chinese American Bar Association, along with the Chinese American Citizens Alliance and the Chinese American Museum of Chicago co-hosted a special screening of “Abacus: Small Enough to Jail.” Abacus Federal Savings Bank was the only U.S. bank indicted for mortgage fraud related to the 2008 crisis. Abacus is owned by the Sung family and headed of Thomas Sung and his daughters, Vera, Jill and Chanterelle. The documentary showcases their adversity and their eventual triumph over the fraud charge brought by New York County District Attorney, Cyrus Vance, Jr. Their victory was a victory for all Chinese Americans!
